Says Jasmine Sokko, “I believe that music soundtracks our lives. I really love the idea of reaching people through my music first before anything else. Being able to represent on Spotify’s EQUAL campaign that aims to foster equality for women in the music industry is an absolute honor.”
The artist also posted a heartfelt Instagram post to express her excitement, adding that, “I was that little girl who looked up to many powerful women figures, for they affirmed me that everyone is deserving of every chance to achieving their dreams. Though the road to genuine equality is a long and constantly shifting one, it is an absolute honor to be a part of it.”
In honor of International Women’s Day back in March 2021, Spotify launched EQUAL, a new initiative highlighting the women creators on its platform and working towards equity for women in the audio industry. In 2019, Jasmine was also the only Singaporean and only female producer competing in the Top 10 of China’s Rave Now, an electronic music talent reality show, where she finished in fourth place. In the same year, Jasmine released “TIRED” (her biggest hit till date) and became the first Singaporean artist to clinch the much-coveted award for Best Southeast Asian Act at the 2019 MTV EMAs.
In 2020, Jasmine continued to prove her mettle, earning nods from Tatler Gen.T (“400 Leaders of Tomorrow”), Tatler Asia (“Asia’s Most Stylish”) and Straits Times (“2020 Year End Power List”). For 3 years in a row (2018 – 2020), Jasmine Sokko is also Spotify Singapore’s Top 5 Most Streamed Local Artist.
